Do you need a DSLR camera to take a good Panorama? part 2

The picture below is a second panorama taken with the Nikon Coolpix S800C.  This is a 360 taken inside the Duomo St Mary in Pisa.  Considering it is taken with only the available lighting and the camera is hand held, this little Nikon has done a great job.  The beauty of doing this with a compact camera is the set up is a doddle.  Just stand somewhere in the middle of the room, select the appropriate mode on the camera and then press the shutter.  All you have to do then is turn yourself and the camera around and the panorama is created rather like you were creating a video.  As mentioned in part one of this story, the panorama has its limitations, and the picture would certainly have been better if the camera had been mounted on a tripod and rotated on that.  So I won’t be using one for creating any panoramas or virtual tours for my clients but when I just want a panoramic snapshot then it will definitely be a useful tool.
